Programs
Biblical Counseling Ministries
As God's people, we are members of one body in Christ Jesus. Therefore, God wants us to use our gifts and abilities to build up one another, displaying the unconditional love of Christ in an environment that is safe and confidential. As such, we can effectively impart wisdom, exhortation, love and compassion in the confidential setting of counseling to help bring about personal resolution and healing. The primary goal of the Biblical Counseling Ministry is to show forth God's love to people regardless of their status in life.
Christian Lay Counseling (CLC) -- This ministry is to provide supportive counseling at every points of a person's spiritual journey. This ministry seeks to convey the relational aspects of God and His desires for our love in an intimate relationship with Him. The Bible declares that there are safety and victory in the abundance of counselors (Prov. 11:14; 24:6). This ministry will come alongside those who are facing difficult circumstances to help guide them along the way, to facilitate healing and growth. The Word of God assures us that: (1) there is victory in the abundance of wise, godly counsel, and (2) the people of God have received precious gifts such as exhortation, wisdom, discernment, mercy and teaching to personality share with others in the counseling environment.
As lay counselors, we are interested in the health and strength of a person's spiritual walk with God. However, we keep in mind how all of the mental, emotional, physical, spiritual and relational aspects of our humanity need healing, especially since they all interact with and affect one another. We are more likely to become our best--all that our Lord would want us to be--when we embrace the large picture of the "whole person," as we wrestle with and work through our trials and challenges. It is God's will for us to understand Him in the context of His generous love and grace, so that we can live out that love in our lives and the world.
We rest in the fact that God is a safe, sovereign, present help in our time of need. In Him we are, without condemnation, free to acknowledge and then address our own unresolved issues and emotions. As we deal with our own unresolved issues and emotions, we increase our ability to help others. We love because we are first loved by God, and then by His people (the body of Christ). This healing journey often reflects:
--Giving ourselves completely to God for His purposes and learn to grow in the knowledge of His grace.
--Desire to serve Christ and others by helping others.
--Realize our needs, hurts, and unresolved issues that get in the way of serving God.
--Open up ourselves to help by God and others to address that which hinders and cripples us.
--Experience the grace of God as we hold and embrace the intolerable, embrassing and unacceptable aspects of our lives.
--Experience healing from God by learning to be ourselves, believed in and loved in whatsover state we are in.
--Learn to fully accept the severest of our own issues and unresolved challenges and emotions.
--Put our hearts in the position of applying God's truth, practical tools, and correction.
--Become more equipped and empowered to do for others what God and others did for us--to effectively minister God's love, grace, comfort, and wisdom.
Crisis Intervention Programs
Anger Management Workshop (AMW) -- The AMW is designed for both men and women who are struggling with anger issues and whom anger is causing problems in their lives or relationships (with God and man). It focuses on compassion and is designed to teach individuals control over anger by helping them to replace the emotion of anger with that of compassion, so they can build loving relationship, instead of breaking them down.
Couple's Communication Workshop (CCW) -- A couple's ability to handle conflict and disagreements is the best predictor of future marriage well being. All couples will have problems. However, it is how you handle them that count most. CCW is an interactive workshop that is designed for couples of all ages. This workshop is a combination of discussion and interactive exercise. The workshop will provide married couples with the communication and problem solving skills required to handle issues that we all face.
Divorce Care and Crisis Intervention (DCCI). Going through a divorce is a stressful event for the parties who are faced with such predicament. The emotional reactions usually depend on the spiritual maturity levels of the individuals. Oftentimes, many experience feelings of anger, hopelessness, rejection, desertion, sadness, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress. It is not uncommon for these feelings to be expressed in the individuals' behaviors. As Christians believers, we can help those who are going through the process of divorce by coming alongside them by encouraging, praying, supporting and being a friend with a listening ears. Also, we can help to minimize the stress the situation creates by responding openly and honestly to the concerns of the person experiencing the divorce.
The DCCI strategically incorporates both Biblical and educational strategies to help provide spiritual and emotional supports to those facing divorce crisis. As such, DCCI will help to provide support system, support group sessions and divorce workshops: a) anger management resolution--to help individuals develop healthy coping mechanisms in dealing with their anger and fears of abondanment, engage in supportive communications, maintain consistent expectations and routines, and make healthy adjustment; b) relaxation training--this strategy teaches individuals how to relax their minds and bodies and help them learn to cope with stresses and maintain daily activities and take responsibilities for their own actions, allowing them to feel more in control of their situation; and c) support group counseling session to help individuals cope with crisis situations through group discussions, role plays, and peer interactions to encourage individuals to be honest, direct, and open about thier feelings. The educational program is designed to help individuals effectively cope with divorce in a healthy manner.

Our goal is to visit those individuals who are isolated at home, hospitalized, visitation of elderly who are physically impaired, or confined to nursing homes. It is the desire that this ministry to foster a relationship with people that reflect the true love of Christ in serving people God's way. Volunteers are needed in this area and commitment would be to make at least one visitation bi-weekly or two visits per month.
Family Intervention Care (FIC) -- FOHIM advocates for the sanctification and unification of the family as a unit in order to stop the disintegration (tearing down) of the norms of family values within a communal (society). We are committed to the rebuilding of strong family systems (as God originally intended) by providing resources, training, and Biblical precepts that promote Godly family values to enhance the mobilization of members within the family unit. As such, FIC will reinforce traditional values in families that promote family bonds/closeness and nurture healthy communication among family members according to Biblical truths regarding the institution of marriage and family system. FIC will assist with crisis intervention and referrals to bring stability within the family unit, as well as will provide spiritual enrichment programs, family violence prevention training, and family bonding activities.
FIC focus is to minister healing and wholeness in the lives of shattered and hurting families through the application of Biblical principles to bring total recovery and restoration within the family unit. The aims are to create a paradigm shift to inspire deeper level of commitment, love and appreciation among family members,to empower, affirm, validate and strengthen the family as a cohesive unit, and to uphold Biblical family values as set forth in the Scriptures: Gen. 2:24; Matt. 19: 4-9; Eph. 5: 22-25; Lev. 14:29; Ps. 127: 3; James 1:27; Num. 27: 6-11; Lev. 25: 47-49; Acts. 10: 11-14; 16: 21-32.
Christian Centered Recovery (CCR) -- This program helps individuals recovery from hang-ups, habits and hurts. The Bible tells us that all have sinned. It is human nature to sin, and because of this, we have at some point hurt ourselves and others, as well as been hurt by other people. The expression "time heals all wounds" is unfortunately not true. CCR is program that gives people the resources and fosters relationships to help them recover from life's hurts, habits, and hang-ups. The program is for anyone struggling with past or current dysfunctions or compulsions, whether they are affecting their own life or the lives of those around them.
The purpose of CCR is to fellowship and celebrate God's healing power in thier lives through the principles found in the beatitudes (Matt.5). This experience allows them to be changed by working and applying Biblical principles, to grow spiritually, and becomes free from addictive, compulsive, and dysfunctional behaviors. This freedom creates peace, serenity, joy, and most importantly, a strong personal relationship with God, others, and Jesus Christ, the one and only true God.
